Shows - The Smugglers Inn - November 2003
The smugglers Inn ran from the 14th to the 16th of November at our ladies School in Crowthorne and proved to be a completely different experience for Crowthorne Musical Players cast and audience. Lurking in our 18th century tavern the cast took on the personas of smugglers, highwaymen, wenches, drunks, bodysnatchers and whores to name but a few. The audience were drawn into witnessing little scenarios involving most of the characters and were sometimes unwilling (sometimes willing) participants!
The cast entertained the rest of the punters in the tavern with traditional Olde English music and dance and very bad jokes!! One of the more notable chorus numbers being "Sovay" kindly licenced to us by canasg music.
During the Sunday matinee the bawdyness was toned dowm for our younger audience of children who came dressed as pirates and mermaids. As well as having to find the hidden pirate treasure they were visited by Daisy the pantomime cow.
It's fair to say that our audience were well entertained during this production which included some wonderful chorus numbers directed by Nick Austin who for the first time in CMP history agreed to appear in costume (he even wore the tights!). Choreography was arranged by Debbie Mann and direction by Liz Sharp.
