Shows - Fiddler On The Roof, 26th - 30th March 1996

Chairman's Welcome

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I take great pleasure in welcoming you to Crowthorne Musical Player's production of Fiddler on the Roof.

When we started rehearsing back in September, the performance week seemed a long way off, but the time has literally flown by and suddenly here we are - on stage!

I am always impressed by the committment shown by all those involved in the show - not only by those of us on stage who turn up week after week for rehearsal, but of those who's job it is to ensure that we actually achieve our aim of producing a first class show. I am extremely grateful to all those on the committee who have helped in the show's production and to all those members and friends of the society who are not in the show but who have given up their time to help in many different ways. My deepest thanks must go to Richard Spong, our Stage Manager, and his crew, who will continue to work very hard throughout the show to ensure its smooth running.

We are very fortunate to have such a highly professional Director and Musical Director (Maggie Uttley and Nick Austin) without who's constant nagging and unending enthusiasm CMP would not boast the excellent reputation it now enjoys.

So, now we have everything - lights, sound, orchestra, scenery, cast and of course, an audience. All we need to do now is to entertain you ... and so on with the show!

Claire Lawson, Chairman

The Story

Tevye is the village milkman in Anatevka, a small rural community somewhere in Russia, on the eve of the Russian Revolution. The Jewish people there are steeped in traditions which have, for as long as anyone can remember, dictated the way of life in Anatevka. However, things are changing - there is growing unrest in the country, which the Tzar is determined to quell using whatever force is necessary, and on top of that, Tevye's daughters are about to test his faith in the tradition to the limit.....
